Energy Performance Building, Standards and Labels, Macedonia. Dr. Lari was responsible for review of existing legislation and capacities, building surveys, energy and CO2 savings calculations with verification protocols, identification of pilot projects and preparation of MSP documents for GEF funding application.

The goal of the program was to draft a GEF proposal to finance the development, realization and compliance with internationally recognized energy performance building standards and labels in Macedonia. The objective of the Directive is to provide tools for determining the energy efficiency of buildings and the measures to improve it, to encourage investment in the sector. Furthermore, this project was to stimulate higher energy performance in buildings through legislation, enforcement and integrated building standards.

The project overall goal was to assist the country in adopting instruments to meet its “capacity needs in terms of reliable, affordable, economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound energy”. It contributed to the development of new products (e.g. building materials) and services (e.g. from architects and financial institutions), based on the proposed standards.
